The National Pension and Social Providence Fund (CNRPS) is a social security
organism in charge of encuring social cover to public sector employees in Tunisia. It is compulsory for those concerned to be affiliated to the CNRPS.CNRPS covers the usual fields of social security such as retirement pensions, pensions for surviving spouses and temporary pensions for orphans.
At the same time, CNRPS contributes to reinforcing
the social choices of the government, basically by financing
house building for rent and granting different loans
at moderate prices and interest rates in the social
environment field.
Thus, it builds residential complexes with all commodities,
in all districts of the Republic’s department
; which had a beneficial impact on the rent costs practiced
on the market, especially in some regions.
After its creation in 1975 following the fusion of
the National Office of Retirement, concerned with pensions,
and the Social Security Office, concerned with social
cover (both established in 1959 after the independence
of the country), CNRPS became a public institution with
a financial autonomy and a civil entity that gave it
a legal power and a management autonomy.
Having reached the age of maturity, CNRPS has progressively
modernized its management operations and tried to be
closer to its affiliates. These operations were further
reinforced after 1987.
CNRPS provides services to about 630 thousand affiliates.
Taking into account their heirs, the population benefiting
from social cover reaches about 3 million persons. The
National and Social Security Fund (CNSS) serves the
rest of the Tunisian population with social cover regimes.
In fact, the social security management, in Tunisia,
is shared between three funds : CNRPS that deals with
the public sector CNSS that deals with the private
one and CNAM thart deals with
sickness cover.
The Ministry of Social Affairs, Solidarity and Tunisians
abroad provides the major guidelines of the big choices
through the management authority that is the administration
Council.
It is to be noted that the social cover regimes managed
by CNRPS are intended for all employees of the public
sector without sex or nationality distinction ; foreign
contract-based workers have exactly the same advantages
as the Tunisian ones.
